A Transformative Year Ahead
As we step continue forward in 2025, the Indigenous Futures Film Academy (IFFA) is filled with excitement and anticipation for what promises to be a transformative year. With the generous support of the Canada Media Fund (CMF) Sector Development Grant, we are expanding our programming and deepening our commitment to empowering Indigenous filmmakers, storytellers, and creators across Turtle Island.
This year, we are rolling out a series of impactful training programs, mentorship opportunities, and hands-on experiences designed to nurture Indigenous talent at every stage of their creative journey. From youth workshops to professional development initiatives, our focus remains on breaking barriers, creating opportunities, and amplifying Indigenous voices in film and media.
One of our most exciting initiatives is the IFFA On-Set Accelerator Program, where aspiring Indigenous filmmakers will gain real-world production experience while working on major Indigenous-led projects. This program will equip participants with the technical skills and industry knowledge needed to build successful careers in the screen industry. Additionally, our Youth Film Camp at Oskayak High School, in partnership with Wabanaki Media, will introduce young storytellers to the fundamentals of filmmaking, allowing them to develop and produce their own short films.
Our community engagement remains at the heart of everything we do. With the launch of the Indigenous Futures Fund, we are committed to supporting Indigenous filmmakers in accessing memberships, submitting their projects for award nominations, and attending key industry events. This initiative ensures that Indigenous creators have the resources and recognition they deserve within the Canadian screen industry.
We are also proud to continue our work on a docu-series focused on language revitalization that not only tells compelling stories but also provides on-set training for Indigenous youth and emerging filmmakers. Through this project, we aim to celebrate the resilience of Indigenous communities and showcase their efforts in preserving language and culture through film.
As we embark on this journey in 2025, we invite you to join us, support Indigenous storytelling, and be part of this growing movement. Whether through partnerships, mentorship, or participation in our programs, we are building an inclusive and dynamic future for Indigenous filmmakers.
Stay tuned for updates, program announcements, and opportunities to get involved. This is just the beginning of an incredible year at IFFA!
